Have you ever met my dachshunds? Meet the newest family members of my home, Bella ( 11 months) chocolate ( 3 years). They are fairly popular on instagram and facebook now, with chocolate ranking at 5000 likes in one day, I am so happy I am the owner of these 2 most wonderful loving dogs. I will post a few pictures on my blog for those who follow me here and share a few stories if you don’t mind.
Last night I caught the two gazing at the sunset… awwwe isn’t this romantic?
more about Bella:
( her first day in the yard) ( and that’s her ribs sticking out of her side :( … )
Bella is a “Wal-Mart baby” we call her that because we rescued her from in front of Wal-Mart,
the only girl in her pack of 6 brothers she was the runt of the family, very skinny, very weak she was left in the cage and no one wanted her.
When I drove by from shopping my heart really was pulling to stop, hubby of course was eye rolling a little, but it was probably because he was in such a rush to get home.
I stopped and looked at the basket full of dogs and I asked if they have a girl, she said yes and dug her up from under all the other pups.
I looked at her and fell in love, my hubby honking his horn and waving come on.. lets go sigh I had to go.
I got in the car and started making my case for why chocolate needs her. My husband is a total animal lover, he really did not want another small dog, he was also in a rush so it kind of all went left at first.
we got home and I started putting, I was tired and I could not get the dog out of my head, sitting under a pile of hefty puppies, so skinny and she was shaking too when I picked her up then,
Hubby sais I am off to work, I replied well I am off to take a nap,
its 12 am he sais .. what’s with this face, you still thinking about the dog now? I said don’t worry I ll be ok I understand we cant have another puppy right now.
So he leaves, I go to lay down, I am feeling so sad too. He must have felt this in his heart because he calls 30 minutes later, what are you doing? Well I am trying to take a nap still as I told you.
He replies ok, look come outside, so I go almost in a little bit of a shock because well he just left, why is her back over here.
yey!!!! is this what I think this is?
He gets out and gets her, he brings her to me and I forget about my headache about my feeling tired, sad or anything, all I feel is joy
He hands me the puppy as he heads out to work.
Here I am with another pup, she was so very skinny, you could see her every bone, her coat was so dull, I noticed she had fleas too,
It took all day to get her bathed, ticks and fleas removed, I also noticed her hair was falling right out, she had some tiny bald spots after the wash and brushing tick removal etc.
Next day I took her to the vet who informed me she had worms on top of everything else, ( thank god we really got rid of the fleas though right away)
She got treatment for that and a few shots. poor baby.
within a few weeks she was starting to come around more, she was so shy first weeks she did not want anyone to touch her other than myself or hubby, she would literally curl up in fear,
Whats choco doing all this time you ask?
He is prancing back and fourth bringing balls rope and inviting her to come down from my lap every day, all she did was growl at him,
and he would look at me with the face like he was saying, mom the new toy doesn’t play nice..
but he was a perfect gentleman and left her be… as I thought him to be …
for now, that is …
We also started noticing something really going on with bellas coat, we finally found out she also had mites. poor poor baby,
it took almost 6 months for the mites to be gone from her fur.
dog mites aren’t dangerous to humans or other dogs, it has something to do with the immune system of the dog and they are passed down from the mother to the pup.
I did a lot of research, and the treatment was very very expensive, I opted out for doing home remedy treatment such as borax and hydro peroxide.
I will tell you that that did work. peroxide is a miracle fluid, it is great for many other things and we always have it on hand so
every day I would spray her with some and every day her coat started looking better and better.
Bella also has gotten fixed ( we are not breeders and we can not take care of puppies),
but mainly because this little girl dog has been trough enough all I need is an accident and her having puppies, that would be heartbreaking and unhealthy for her.
That too was painful for her for the first couple days.
*btw you can still tell her neck as a thin coat , this is how her whole body looked for months with a lot of bald spots..
she is a real fighter. She has been trough so much, finally Bella will be a year old this month and she is looking soooo adorable now.
her coat is smooth, she has a little junk in her trunk if you know what I mean.
But she is mostly the best dog I could think of having.
She listens so well, being punished to her means I tell her shes a bad girl, she will give me one of the most soft sad looks when I do say it, and trust me that isn’t often,
( this is her NO mommmy I am not a bad girl look)
its a lot of work with a puppy but shes truly made it a breeze, she goes outside almost from day one, she never runs away, she literally wants to walk at my heel, she loves her choco
Even when hes moody ( being the older wiser one, he doesn’t always want to play) but she is so gentle, loving and the most cute dog I ve ever had, he can not resist her.
( I mean wuld you resist this?)
Look at her feet lol they are so not straight but you would not be able to tell, Bella is one of the fastest dogs I have ever seen, she lightning, I really should have called her that.
She loves this Ball, The little red squeaky Ball Chocolate ( my gentleman) passed down to her.
If this ball is not around she looks for it, she finds it even in a drawer or on top of a fridge.
We hide it because it squeeks and she squeeks it a LOT, I would probably not be sane if she could have it all day lol. But she gets it once a day for a couple hours and we throw it,
and she loves it, no one thought her how to fetch, she just does it, and brings the ball back too.
well after a few squeeks, lol she will let it go and let you throw it again for her.
Shes the princess of this house, and she knows it.
for now today I was so tickled to see them together gazing out of the window at what I like to think is the sunset.
